Thirteen Ghosts (2001) is a supernatural horror film that follows Arthur Kriticos, a widowed father who inherits a mysterious glass mansion from his eccentric uncle, Cyrus. Along with his two children, Kathy and Bobby, and their nanny, Maggie, Arthur moves in, unaware that the house was built to imprison twelve powerful and violent ghosts. It’s revealed that the house is actually a complex machine designed to open the "Ocularis Infernum"—the Eye of Hell—a device that grants its user unimaginable power by channeling the energy of the twelve ghosts. To activate the machine, a thirteenth ghost must willingly sacrifice themselves out of pure love. Arthur soon realizes that he may be the key to stopping the process, but he struggles with the choice, especially when the safety of his children is at stake.

As the danger intensifies, the characters must decide who to trust. Kalina, a supposed ghost-rights activist, initially helps the group but is later revealed to have her own dark motives. Dennis sacrifices himself to save Arthur, helping him buy time to find a solution. The tension builds to a dramatic climax as Arthur faces the ultimate choice between self-sacrifice and saving his family.

In the end, Arthur finds the strength to outsmart the machine without sacrificing himself. He destroys the mechanism, freeing the ghosts from their eternal prison. The spirits, now released from their torment, disappear peacefully into the afterlife. The family escapes the crumbling house, finally free from the curse.
